During our weekend away we went and visited the La Brea Tar Pits which are located in the middle of Los Angeles. It's this big park that has this huge lake of tar. There's a cool museum there where you can see fossils from sabertooth cats and mammoths.
All these ice age animals got caught in the tar which actually preserved them really well and they are able to find whole skeletons all over the place there. It was a fun place to visit. The only problem is that the place stinks like asphault, I couldn't quite put my finger on why. :) Here's a picture of Sid the Sloth and his friend Dippy.
